80s Awesomeness! ~ 108

Solarbabies. Released in 1985, filled with awesome 80s cheese. But it's fitting. Why? Because it's dystopian, which just so happens to be all the rage in YA right now.

So Solarbabies? A group of teens form a skateball league of the same name and they're all from the same "orphanage" (really a work house where kids are yanked from their parents at mere months old so they don't know their lineage and they're formed to be workers for the Protectorate). They live in a world where the Protectorate has taken over the planet, renumbered the years and shanghaied all of the Earth's water. They control the water and thusly they control life. Until one of the Solarbabies stumbles upon Bodai, the mythic savior of the planet and in customary teen fashion, all shit breaks loose.

While it's pretty damn cheesy, it's dystopian element is pretty neat and it's a nominally good story, short of Jason Patric's acting. I'd recommend it, especially if you like dystopian.
